Lake Inverell Recreation Area

Lake Inverell is a 6.6 hectare nature reserve located on the eastern outskirts of Inverell. The lake and its surrounds are one of Inverell’s most popular recreational spaces. The area is rich with birdlife and other wildlife. Paddle sports enthusiasts will love the tranquil setting of the lake to relax and unwind. There are some excellent walks and amazing facilities thanks to an $886,000 upgrade by Inverell Shire Council with support from NSW Government.

With a distance of 1.6km of looped track, this off road cycleway is ideal for any level of cycling enthusiast. Three different loops provide different challenges on a bitumen surface. Meandering Macintyre Footpath Mosaic

The “Meandering Macintyre” Footpath Mosaic can be found outside the Inverell Art Gallery in Evans Street. The mosaic is 94 metres long and represents the flow of the Macintyre River. It was designed and created by members of the Inverell Art Society, together with community members and Inverell Shire Council. Wing Hing Long Museum

The Wing Hing Long and Company Store in Tinga is a long way from Chinatown.This little store has been turned into a museum to raise awareness of the contribution the Chinese made to rural communities in NSW.During the peak of the mining boom between 1880 and 1920 a large community of Chinese miners established themselves in the district. This community sought Chinese goods, services and general supplies.In 1881, the site where Wing Hing Long is situated was purchased by Inverell storekeeper Ah Lin to establish a general store servicing the tin mining communities of the Tingha district. His was a typical general store where you could buy anything and everything.

With over 200 members and 120 vehicle exhibits, ranging from Vintage, Veteran, Classic and Motorcycles, the National Transport Museum has become a valuable tourist attraction for the North West and New England area. Some of the vehicles on display include a 1906 Dayton (believed to be the only one left worldwide), 1912 Renault, various Holdens and Fords including GT Falcons, 1926 Diana, 1929 Packard, and wide range of Chev’s just to name a few.

located on the Gwydir Highway, 1km east of Inverell’s CBD. The Memorial is dedicated to the two groups of young men who enlisted during World War l and departed from Inverell in early 1916. Although some 600 young men had already volunteered from the district by the end of 1915, the Kurrajong’s contingent was the largest group of recruits to ever leave a country town.

Travelling south to Tingha you will drive into a sandy granite area. The area offers the opportunity to fossick for many different types of Quartz Crystals, including Clear, Smokey, Rutilated Quartz and Yellow Citrine. Visit the creek crossing at Stannifer to find these gems.

The districts rich volcanic soils can offer other gems and minerals. One such gem, is the amazing Diamond found near Copeton Dam, the Staggy Creek Fossicking Area provides a site where you can look for the Diamonds together with Black Tourmaline and Quartz. This is a rough dry area 28km from Inverell, you can take your water or dry sieve.
